Sports Massage
Curriculum:
  • Understand and explain the changes that occur during exercise to the muscular system, Physiology of the muscle cell. Origins, insertions and actions of muscles. The effects of stress on muscles during sport. 
  • Understand and explain the principles, techniques and benefits of stretching, massage and cryotherapy. Application of sports massage techniques including classical massage movements plus, Muscle Energy Techniques (METs), Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF), Soft Tissue Release, Neuromuscular Technique. 
  • The effects on the neurological system; during exercise. 
  • Describe in detail the joint structure and understand and explain the effects on the joints during exercise. 
  • The principles of training, the effects of over training and the concepts of force and motion. 
  • The principles of injury prevention and management. Understand and explain the tissue healing process and the process of injury rehabilitation. Understand and explain the signs and symptoms of inflammation. A review of common sports injuries. 
  • Understand and explain scar tissue and adhesions plus the different types of damage to the skin that can arise during sporting activities. 
  • The consultation process, client care, hygiene etc..

Certification: International Therapy Examination Council (ITEC)
 
Covers all aspect of sports massage to enable the therapist to understand the effect and benefits of massage to assist in dealing with injury and training requirements. This qualification is for those who want to work in leisure centres and with sports clubs and competitive athletes and teams.

Duration: One night a week from April to July Thursday Evening
 
Fees

  • €1000.00 if holder of Massage diploma already.
  • If taking with Anatomy Physiology and massage add €650.00.
  • So all three anatomy/physiology/ Sports total €2,150.00 Special package (SAVE €600).
